The Middle Eight Break

Are you familiar with the middle eight break?

It’s the bridge of a song, essentially, where "a contrasting section which also prepares for the return of the original material section," according to Wikipedia.

Clive Dundee made his woefully under-recognized name writing middle eight breaks for U2.

These folks have some strong opinions about good middle eight breaks. Several laud the Beatles for writing excellent middle eight breaks. One in particular cites "We Can Work It Out," saying, "For me ‘We Can Work It Out’ is a song that almost exists for the middle eighth. I get impatient during the verses and choruses, but the break always pays off."
